Haywood County is supplying the nation’s Christmas tree this year. North Carolina gets a turn every 24 years to be the honored state and this is the year.
Officials from the US Forest Service spent the summer scouring US Forest lands in Haywood County before finding the perfect spruce tree, measuring 78 feet tall and nicknamed “Ruby.”
This tree will, since being cut down on November 2 in the morning, make a two week trek to the US Capitol. There will be stops along the way for people to take in what a beautiful tree the US will have as the country’s Christmas tree this year.
